Hobbyist beekeeper, hoping to reach Sideline beekeeper status by spring 2023.
I’m getting back into beekeeping this year, 2021. Started with five Russian nucs and four Italian packages in two different locations. I have also caught three swarms in my swarm traps. So I’ll be at 12 hives going into winter and I plan to have enough woodenware ready to split to 24 hives in the spring of 2022. I’m then planning on doubling again to 48 or so hives by spring of 2023. I’ll be retiring from my full time job, night shift RN in neonatal ICU, spring of 2027. So my five year goal is to be able to replace most of my nursing income by selling honey, wax, and bees.
